Dr. Michael L. Gross MD is the Medical Director of the Active Center for Health & Wellness. He currently is the orthopedic director of Sports Medicine at HUMC. After treating athletes on all levels for many years, Dr. Gross has developed a keen interest in preventative medicine. He completed a fellowship in Sports medicine, and is board certified in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine. Because of his interest in preventative medicine, he is currently enrolled in a fellowship in anti-aging and restorative medicine and is working towards board certification form the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine.
Through his care for orthopedic injuries, and his own experiences as a weekend warrior, Dr. Gross has developed the philosophy that guides us at ACHW. True wellness is achieved through a balance of regular exercise, balanced diet, and optimizing medical health through the utilization of anti-aging medicine. Finally stress relief is crucial to achieving balance, health and wellness.

She then earned her doctorate from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, New Jersey. She went on the complete her residency in Family Medicine at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, where she served as Chief Resident. Lisamarie brings tremendous experience in healthcare and business management. For the past seven years Lisamarie has served as the Executive Vice-President of Business Affairs and Practice Administrator for Active Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. During this time, she completed numerous business management courses. Most recently, she completed MBA survey courses at Rutgers University in both healthcare management and finance. In 2008, she was nominated and placed second in the PAHCOM national competition for Medical Practice Administrator of the Year.

Spain is an N.A.S.M certified personal trainer since 2004. He has a CPT (certified personal trainer certificate) CES (corrective exercise certificate) and is trained in PES (performance assessment and exercise technique). He is also certified in TRX (suspension training) as well as CPR.
Spain is trained to work with people of all populations, having worked with obese, injured, ill, athletic and to the ordinary, who just loves to exercise and stay in shape. He is well versed in developing programs that provide the optimum results taking into account the activities his clients enjoy. Spain is a motivator who pushes his clients to their physical limits. He believes that exercise has a role in every aspect of life and his job is to bring the best out of each individual.
Spain is skilled on all training aspects offered on the Active Center for Health & Wellness menu. He provides encouragement and support for his clients and recognizes what their strengths and weaknesses are and based on that creates a unique program for them.
By profession, Jane is an Attorney at Law of the State of New Jersey and by way of occupation she currently serves as an appointed public official in the position of Business Administrator for a New Jersey municipality. She holds a Masters of Administrative Science from Fairleigh Dickenson University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Certificate in Accounting from Caldwell College. She is also a iPEC trained Certified Professional Life Empowerment Coach and Energy Leadership Index Master Practitioner having founded Just Focus Coaching in 2008. In 2012, Jane formed JNF Enterprises, L.L.C. d/b/a äh Massage Services / äh Relaxation Zone. She is also Reiki III Master and currently pursuing Certification and Practitioner status in Eden Energy Medicine.
Jane embarked on her pursuit of a career in coaching upon the realization that all of her successes through her life fell short of achieving real personal satisfaction and a true sense of self-fulfillment. It was her awakening after a long period of introverted analysis that to reach her full potential and life purpose she needed to share her skills, talent and knowledge with others. Jane is also a Certified Massage Therapist licensed to practice in the State of New Jersey and insured by ABMP. She received her massage therapy training at the Academy of Massage Therapy after an extensive course of study in 2008. Massage therapy is one of her ways of reaching out and touching the lives of others in a very special way. In a private massage session with Jane, you will quickly notice that her style is very fluid, flowing, dance-like and tends to be mesmerizing when combined with rhythmic music. Carrie Kelly, a Registered Dietitian is a food and nutrition expert committed to helping you enjoy a healthy life. Carrie earned a bachelors degree in Nutritional Science and has maintained her RD for the past 9 years. She is a member of the American Dietetic Association and has completed various post-graduate courses in clinical nutrition.
Nutrition consulting at the Active Center for Health & Wellness will utilize the latest technology to track your diet, progress and help you achieve optimal results. Consultations and continued monitoring are available by appointment.
Christine is committed to empowering her patients with services that yield long term changes. She uses a comprehensive approach to evaluate and treat each patient, and integrates her extensive experience with bodywork into her acupuncture treatments. In addition, Christine offers individualized self-care regimens which incorporate herbs, nutrition, corrective exercises and MELT (myofascial energetic length technique). Christine is a graduate of the Swedish Institute for Massage Therapy and Tristate College of Acupuncture where she received a Master’s of Science in Oriental Medicine. Christine continues to be amazed by the power of acupuncture to stimulate the body’s self-healing mechanisms and its ability to restore harmony.
Po-Hong Yu is a New Jersey & New York Licensed Acupuncturist and a Diplomat of NCCAOM. She received her Masters of Science at Tri-State College of Acupuncture where she was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Kiiko Matsumoto\'s Japanese style of acupuncture and Trigger Point Therapy. Po-Hong is passionate about Chinese Medicine and using this modality to help others through their physical and emotional process. She specializes in musculoskeletal pain, GYN conditions, digestive conditions, scar work and emotional imbalances, such as, anxiety, depression and stress.
Darren Maynard, LAc, MS is a NCCAOM National Board Certified licensed acupuncturist in the states of New Jersey and New York. Mr. Maynard holds a Masters of Science in Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture (TSCA) in New York, one of the oldest acupuncture colleges in the United States, and a Bachelors of Science from James Madison University. While attending TSCA he had the opportunity to study at the Beijing Traditional Medicine Training Center in Beijing, People’s Republic of China. Mr. Maynard worked with Chinese doctors and learned the fundamental importance of integrating Eastern and Western medical theory and practice. During his three years at TSCA, Mr. Maynard studied with some of the most experienced practitioners in the country and learned four distinct styles of acupuncture: Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM) and myofascial trigger point release; Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM); Kiiko Matsumoto (KM); and Japanese meridian-based acupuncture.
Having all four styles of acupuncture at his disposal empowers Mr. Maynard to assess any illness or injury through a variety of filters, enabling him to find the most appropriate and effective treatment strategy for each patient. Mr. Maynard believes in a balanced approach to all healing utilizing acupuncture, Oriental medicine, appropriate exercise, dietary and nutritional counseling, and patient education.
Mr. Maynard has had a lifelong involvement in sports, as both participant and coach. It was his love of sports that led him to specialize in sports medicine acupuncture. This specialization enables Mr. Maynard to successfully manage any injury, from the initial assessment, through treatment and rehabilitation and onto injury prevention. Sports Medicine Acupuncture incorporates principles from TCM and Western Sports Medicine and views the patient’s injury from a truly integrated perspective. The ultimate goal of Sports Medicine Acupuncture is to promote recovery by reducing pain and swelling, increasing range of motion, strengthening weakened parts of the injured body, restoring mobility, strengthening the immune system and speeding healing time. Mr. Maynard’s ultimate goal is to get patients back to functional activity and health as quickly and safely as possible.
